Has your business name, address, phone number or website address ever changed? If so, your business might not be showing up in the search engines because of it.

For small retail or service-based businesses, showing up in the search engines for your local market can be a driving factor in your foot traffic or sales calls.

Imagine someone is looking for a housekeeper. With their phone in hand, they type in “Copperas Cove House Cleaning”. If you are in the cleaning business in Copperas Cove, having your information appear is make-or-break. If you show up at the top like my client, Tidy Tiger Cleaning, you will get several calls and emails every week. If you don’t show up, they are going to hire someone else.

Local search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of getting your website and/or directory listing to show up in Google and the other top search engines.   One of the most important factors in local SEO is the consistency of your business name, address, phone number and website address in online listings. This means that your business name, address, phone number and website URL should be exactly the same on Yelp, Google, Bing, Yahoo, and so on.

If you have multiple phone numbers for your business or have ever changed the name or location of your business, it’s time to get to work making sure all of your online listings are updated and consistent. This can be a time consuming process. You will need to do a lot of research to find all of your company listings. Here’s a list of 50 directories to get you started.
