Facebook can be a great tool to spread the word about your products and services.  However, to use this outlet successfully, business owners need to be aware of general Facebook etiquette:

  • Promote your business through a Facebook “Page” and not through your personal profile.  Status updates on the business page should be professional and relevant to your business.
  • Use the privacy settings to keep your personal information private and separate from your business networking.
  • Keep your business messages more ‘conversational’ and less ‘sales’.  You don’t want to bombard your followers with sales messages or you will scare them away.  Get them involved in discussions about your products or services.  Facebook is a great tool for finding out what your customers are looking for.
  • Engage with your fans and respond to all comments or questions.  Don’t just setup your page and forget it.  Make sure that you check your page frequently and reply quickly when a fan makes a comment.
